WESTPORT, Mass. – Aug. 26, 2025 — Westport School Committee Chair Christopher Thrasher announced today the formation of an exploratory committee to consider a run for U.S. Senate in 2026.
Thrasher, a South Coast based attorney and public policy advocate, is the chief legal architect of six pending ballot initiatives aimed at ratepayer consent, transparency, and affordability in Massachusetts utility billing.
A father with a young family himself, Thrasher is focused on finding ways to make Massachusetts a better place to live, work, and raise a family.
“The next revolution in American politics isn’t ideological; it’s generational,” said Thrasher, 40.
“Our representation in Washington is in need of a deep transformation - the median age of the Commonwealth’s population is 40 - exactly half the age of the current incumbent at the start of the next term.”
“With the Massachusetts Democrat establishment refusing to pass the torch to a new generation, it is up to the Republican Party to present candidates that represent that generational transformation,” said Thrasher.
“Decades of failed policies by the same tired leadership have left us all, young and old, unable to sustain the burdens of a skyrocketing cost of living, runaway inflation, crushing student loan debt, and unaffordable housing,”
Thrasher continued, “Whether it’s retirees struggling to afford utility bills due to a so-called “green new deal” that’s nothing but a raw deal for anyone not on the payroll of an offshore wind developer, or young working families barely able to pay the rent, let alone dream about home ownership, the American dream is in grave danger of becoming a nightmare.”
“No matter your personal political persuasion, the one thing most every American can agree on is that the status quo cannot hold. That is why I have decided to begin the process of exploring a run for U.S. Senate in 2026,” Thrasher said.
The designation of an exploratory committee allows for a “testing the waters” period, and Thrasher will use the next several weeks to engage voters and evaluate the feasibility of a U.S. Senate campaign.
“Now is the time for us all to wake up, to consider new ideas, find new ways of addressing systematic failures in our government, and to embrace a new era of leadership that can restore hope and offer a renewed faith in the American dream,” Thrasher said. “I look forward to hearing from Massachusetts voters in the coming weeks and to taking these first steps toward making the dream a reality for every generation.”
